SIMPLE CONSONANT 4:ㄹ





This is pronounced L when it occurs at the beginning of a word and r when it occurs within a word. Its korean name is liul. It’s pronounced pretty much the same way it is written but with the sound ‘u’ stressed at the end of the last ‘l’ sound. It is like a single rolled Spanish ‘r’ or like the ‘tt’ in ‘butter’ in some American dialects.  If there are two of them together, it becomes a solid ‘l’.
